After attending this 2-day course, participants will:

  • Review various limb deformities suitable for correction and lengthening.
  • Define basic treatment options for pediatric and adult orthopedic deformities.
  • Identify precautions to observe when treating patients undergoing limb lengthening.
  • Become familiar with basic treatment protocols for patients undergoing:
    • Femoral lengthening (internal vs external fixation).
    • Tibial lengthening (internal vs external fixation).
    • Humeral lengthening (internal vs external fixation).
  • Determine the pitfalls of limb lengthening and apply a proactive, systems-based approach that combines primary prevention with risk management, intervention, and safety initiatives.

PRECEPTORSHIP

September 28 - 30

After attending this 3-day preceptorship, participants will:

  • Formulate treatment plans for limb lengthening and deformity correction patients based on in-person observation of live therapy sessions with experienced Physical and Occupational Therapists.
  • Discuss and critique actual cases with Paley Rehabilitation Therapists to determine best practices for positive clinical outcomes.
  • Recommend the appropriate application of rehabilitation techniques (stretching, splinting, postural control and correction) for the patient undergoing limb lengthening or deformity correction.
  • Formulate treatment plans for limb lengthening and deformity correction patients based on in-person observation of live therapy sessions with experienced Physical and Occupational Therapists.
